Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. "The Disciples of Christ" is a history of the church until 1948. The book starts by exploring the history of the Church from the resurrection of Christ. From there, it shows how Barton Stone, Thomas and Alexander Campbell, and others joined three of the "non-denominational" movements to form the Disciples of Christ church. It goes on to tell about the growth, the highs and lows, the people, and events that made the church what it was in 1948. Included are a bibliography and an index. This copy is clean and solid. It is SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR (Garrison), inscribed on the title page. The endpapers serve as maps. Signed by Author(s).

The noted educator and literary editor of "Christian Century" for more than 30 years was also a prolific religious writer whose books include "The March of Faith," "The Disciples of Christ" and others. Exceptionally early and almost miniature ALS, 2pp, 3½" X 4 3/4", New Haven, CT, 1894 December 18. Addressed to Rose. Near fine. Light age toning. Presumably a college undergrad at the time (he indicates "Yale University"), the youthful Garrison sends effusive birthday greetings to a friend in his miniscule script. Reads in part: "This little volume is some of the best vacation reading I know of. It would be excellent to use as we used 'Harvard Stories' and 'Dream Life' last Easter, and I intend to introduce it for such use this Christmas.".
