Juli 1868 in Neweklau, Böhmen, studierte und promovierte 1894 in Wien. Er war am Physiologisch-chemischen Univ.-Institut in Straßburg (Hoppe-Seyler), am Hygienischen Univ.-Institut in Berlin (Hübner) und an der Medizinischen Klinik und Poliklinik in Halle a. S. (Merino) tätig. 1908 habilitierte er sich in Halle a. S. für innere Medizin und Hydrotherapie (Tit. Prof. 1908, o. Hon. Prof. 1919) und wirkt jetzt daselbst als leitender Arzt an der Inneren Abteilung des Elisabethkrankenhauses. Seine Arbeiten betroffen insb. die Hydrotherapie, den Stoffwechsel, die subkutane Fetternährung und die Jodfette. Man spricht von der WINTERNITzschen Jodfettsäureprobe (Verh. dtsch. Ges. inn. Med. 1911, S. 394). Er publizierte u. a.: "Über die Wirkung verschiedener Bäder auf den Gasstoffwechsel", Naumburg 1902." Isidor Fischer Biogr.
