Draft script for the 1985 television movie, seen here under the working title "Reunion at Thurleigh." Copy belonging to secretary Carol Wynn-Jones, with her name in manuscript ink on the title page, and her annotations throughout, noting revisions and deletions. Laid in with the script is a letter from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, dated September 16, 1984, declining to allow the film's producers to use their organization name and images in the film. A successful but lonely Chicago businessman attends a World War II veterans reunion in England, and begins a romance with an old flame during the trip. Originally aired on HBO on May 12, 1985. Shot on location in Surrey, Cambridgeshire, and London. Blue wrappers with a die-cut title window in the British style. Title page present, with credit for screenwriter Albert Ruben, with date (20-9-84) and copy number (52) noted in manuscript ink. 125 leaves, with last page of text numbered 113. Xerographic duplication, rectos only, with rainbow revisions throughout, dated variously between September 20 and October 3, 1984. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine, housed in a black binder.

Condition: Good. 6 large format photographs mounted on board, 29 x 39.4cm. These are the actual display photos .one duplicate.When the head of a large manufacturing firm dies suddenly from a stroke, his vice presidents vie to see who will replace him. This was Lehman's first produced screenplay, and its plot deviates substantially from the novel. He went on to write Sabrina, North by Northwest, West Side Story, and other films. The film is one of few in Hollywood history without a musical score, but the song "Singin' in the Rain" is sung by Mike Walling while he is off-camera taking a shower. The song appears in many MGM films during the period when its lyricist Arthur Freed was a producer at the studio.

Condition: Good. 4 pp. 40.5x29.2 cm (16x11½"). Some soil and stains, toned, creasing and closed tears at edges. Pressbook is a mock "World News" newspaper featuring cover story about the arrival and threat of Klaatu and Gort's ship, Interior of this insert feature more newspaper style articles about the events depicted in the film. Back features banner image at top w/rest of page remaining blank.Afterwards, Wise's film was deemed "the most interesting and subtle science-fiction film that Hollywood produced in the 1950s?astonishingly thoughtful by the standards of the time" (Freedman Citation 1998, 316) which made "audiences feel that there was something serious about science fiction" (Zebrowski Citation1974, 39), thus quickly becoming an "American cult favorite" (Bell-Metereau Citation2006, 125). It won the Golden Globe Award for the Best Film Promoting International Understanding (Fischer Citation2000, 686), earned an honored place in America's National Film Registry (Eagan Citation2010, 446-48), and even NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists regularly screened it for its insights into alien-human interaction (Longuski Citation2007, 5).
