Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 127 pages. Complete collection of the photographer's Polaroid photographs. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Laura Lindgren: Small-size volume format, in keeping with the square shape of the Polaroid photograph. Photographs by Andre Kertesz. Text by Robert Gurbo, Curator of the Andre Kertesz Estate. Foreword by Eelco Wolf, the then Executive Director of the Polaroid Corporation. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper by Mondadori Publishers through EBS in Verona, Italy to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Published on the occasion of the travelling exhibition held in major galleries in Toronto, Chicago, and New York from 2007 through 2008. Presents "Andre Kertesz: The Polaroids". The penultimate body of work by one of the "true greats" of 20th-century photography. "We see a still-fertile mind at work, combining personal objects into striking still lifes set against cityscape backgrounds, reflected and transformed in glass surfaces" (Robert Gurbo). 53 of the Polaroid images first appeared in "From My Window" (1981), the last original body of work Kertesz published before he died in 1985 (glorious retrospectives dominated his last published books). The present volume posthumously presents the Polaroids in their entirety, notably a semi-"Distorted Mirror" image of Susan Nash, the stunningly beautiful wife of rock music legend Graham Nash, who were major collectors of his work, as well as Robert Gurbo himself in his playboy-handsome youth. Martin Parr was right to point out how, through the Polaroid camera, Kertesz made a very late shift from black-and-white to color successfully: They do look like authentic color imagery rather than black-and-white rendered in color (which tonal change Robert Frank believed he could never have pulled off nor wish to even attempt). An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Kertesz collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed (in Dutch) in red ink-pen on the title page by the former Executive Director of The Polaroid Corporation, who wrote the Foreword: "June 27, 2009 Voor mijn vriend Carl, door dir e door dun! Eelco" (Literal translation: "For my friend Carl, through and through! Eelco [Wolf]"). It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Carl, the recipient, a great photographer in his own right, and close friend of Kertesz, then very prominently, discreetly, and beautifully signed his name in black ink-pen on the front free endpaper: "Chiarenza". This title is a great art photography book. This is the only such double-signed, dated, and inscribed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare, one-of-a-kind signed copy thus. 81 plates. Andre Kertesz's "Day of Paris" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the greatest photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ANDRE KERTESZ TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). Signed by Author(s).…
