Ford, this pamphlet lays out the platform of the 1940 Communist Party, including keeping the US out of World War II, protecting and extending civil liberties, full rights for African-Americans, curbing monopolists, and supporting a farmer-labor party. Earl Browder (1891-1973) was a Communist from Kansas and General Secretary of the CPUSA during the 1930s into the 1940s. James W. Ford (1893-1957) was a political activist and ran for the vice-presidential position for the Communist Party USA in 1932, 1936, and 1940. Ford, an African-American, was born in Alabama and worked as a party organizer for the CPUSA in New York City.
