It paints a vivid picture of the city's early years, from the arrival of the first commercial steamer in 1848 to the transformative opening of the Panama Canal in 1911. The author traces the exponential growth of shipping and trade during this period, highlighting the pioneering efforts of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company and other maritime ventures. In doing so, the book offers a compelling narrative of human ingenuity, determination, and the transformative power of seafaring in shaping a city's destiny. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
