"The editors and authors of this book believe that the causes of the major failings in the working of town planning are political, and affect the whole country. Their remedy would require, first of all, an appraisal of the big so9cial and technological changes and migrations since the war, in the light of their influence on the location and form of all building developments; and then a recasting of central policies to form a clear and workable framework for local plans." However, The Beard Studies Omit Any Response From Any In The Great Masses Of The World Who Do Not Invent Or Manufacture, Nor Own Or Manage, The Technological Enterprises Which Are The Essence Of Technological Development, Which Is The Primary Concern Of These Respondents; Nor Has Any Study In The Succeeding 90 Years Attempted To Explore The Meaning Of Culture So Except In The Most Superficially Journalistic And Condescending Manner. But What Could Go Wrong? Aren't The Elites, After All, Elite? It Isn't Like Unprincipled Demagogues, Secure With All The Advantages Of Modern Technology, Would Incite Violence Amongst The Vast Majority, With Relatively Ever-Declining Options Ever-Declining Self-Esteem And Relatively Ever-Declining Standards Of Living. Why Bother Talking To Them To See Anything More Than Whether They Agree Or Not? And Who Will Ever Want To Read Ordinary People's Opinions When The Questions They're Asked Are Always Stupidly Closed-Ended And Never Followed Up By Why Etc.. Headpieces And Jacket By E. E. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. SCARCE, while OCLC locates 23 copies in institutions, no copies foumd in current commerce, and only the earlier 1858 edition found at auction, and that not since 1963. From the collection of noted Mammoth Cave historian and author Harold Meloy, his small name label front paste down…. Bound in contemporary quarter black leather over marbled boards without the original wrappers, Very Good, moderate toning throughout. vi, 7-61 pages. "Doctors had written about the cave before, but with Charles W. Wright, M.D., of the Kentucky School of Medicinein Louisville, a new era of Mammoth Cave medical authors began.Wright was present in Mammoth Cave during the first descent of a deep pit known as the Maelstrom, and he was one of the first explorers of Diamond Caverns. His book The Mammoth Cave of Kentucky was published in 1858 and again in 1859. In 1860 he revised and enlarged it. As A Guide Manual to the Mammoth Cave the 1860 edition became the standard reference book about the cave until it was replaced nine years later by Dr. Binkerd's book. Even after Binkerd's book was replaced by Dr. Forwood's book, Wright's Guide Manual was still in demand. It was republished in 1870, and again in 1875." Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 208, xx, [1] ; illustrated, 4 in color ; 21 cm. ; John Horace McFarland (1859-1948) was an American master printer and horticulturist. Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. His w…ide-ranging achievements made a lasting impact on printing processes, horticulture, and environmental protection. During McFarland's early years, his father operated a nursery and a small weekly newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McFarland worked in both of his father's businesses as a youth. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. Over the course of his lifetime, McFarland wrote and lectured extensively on horticulture, printing methods, and civic improvement. McFarland was a prominent member of the American Rose Society.
