Seven individual TLS, and five carbon copies of replies and other matters. Very good. An interesting and illuminating exchange between London publisher Peter Owen and Ellen Wright (widow of the African American expatriate writer, Richard Wright), Parisian literary agent for Violette Leduc. Owen and Wright were in rather heated negotiationS for the British rights for LA FOLIE EN TETE, the follow-up to LA BATARDE which Owen published in English. In Owen's carbons ( and a note stapled to one of them in type and handwritten) he is unhappy about the strong arm tactics being used to get this volume published, including a possible poaching by another publisher. Leduc's earlier novel was a sensational fictionalized account of her lesbian love affairs.
