"a chronological summary and record of every engagement between troops of the Union and Confederacy, showing the total losses and casualties in each engagement, the whole collated and complied from official record". Pages number 580. I believe there are some pages missing. How many I am not sure but I beleive about 10 pages in various spots. Page numbers are somewhat inconsistent or not visible. Jumps from Roman numerals to numbers near the front. Covers are loose from the textblock, many page edges are wrinkled and chipped or torn. Many pages loose, 3 pages are torn and retaped near the back. One page half missing at bottom. Book covers are well rubbed, wear at spine and edges and corners. Dampstain at foredge front, some spotting. Yes it's rough but a scarce look into history.

(illustrator). First Edition. Octavo, xii, [2], 349pp, [1], [4pp ads]. Light green cloth, title stamped in gilt on cover and spine. Complete with frontispiece portrait of General Scott and five full page maps. Foxing to title page and frontispiece portrait, otherwise clean. Solid text block, top edge gilt. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "Capt. John F. Mayer / from his friend / the author / Washington D.C. / July 1894." Marcus Joseph Wright (1831-1922) was a Confederate brigadier general during the American Civil War. Wright served under General Braxton Bragg and took part in the battles at Shiloh and Chickamauga. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1863. After the war, Wright was appointed as the agent for the Confederate Archives in Washington, D.C., where he compiled and preserved many important historical documents. His work contributed to the publication of the "Official Records of the War of the Rebellion." Wright also authored several books on the Civil War and Southern history. He died on December 27, 1922, in Washington, D.C.
