Hard Back. Condition: Fine. No Dust Jacket. First U.S. Edition. 160 Pages Indexed. 180 Full Color Maps. 50 Full Color Photos. One of the blue endpapers has had a label removed leaving a white space. Contents: Old Testament Period, New Testament Period, The Early Church, and The Modern Church. We believe that this atlas features…several notable innovations. Chief among these is to combine an atlas of the Bible with an atlas of church history and of the development of Christianity in the two millennia since the birth of Christ. Moreover, a number of the maps of recent church history included in this atlas, particularly those covering the twentieth century, present material not previously available in this form. We have aimed to create a book that combines the accuracy and comprehensiveness required by the academic world with a clarity and interest that make it accessible to the general reader We believe this atlas breaks new ground too in being almost entirely computer-generated, with the enhanced accuracy and control that state-of-the-art technology affords. We have aided location finding by adding latitudes and longitudes to the maps, and by providing precise reference points in the exhaustive gazetteer at the back of the book. This atlas, the end product of a number of years' intensive work, is the result of team effort. The original design work was by Tony Cantale of Tony Cantale Graphics, and the huge task of researching every map was completed by Malcolm Day. We are most grateful to the three specialist consultants, Professor Alan Millard, Mr David Wright and Dr Brian Stanley, for their advice and expertise at each stage in the development of the atlas. The page designs were created by Peter Wyart, and the boundary- expanding work of generating the finished maps by Geoff Walker and his team at Hardlines. The index and gazetteer were drawn up by Christopher Pipe. We are most grateful to them all.

Hard Back. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 144 Pages Indexed. Large pictorial book in beautiful condition. Red endpapers. Color illustrations on almost every page. This series was created by Military Illustrated magazine, the leading monthly military history publication in the English language. It has bui…lt an unrivaled reputation for authoritative articles, primary research, rare photographs, and specially commissioned artwork. Here is the story of one of the most effective soldiers of the past -- the Rifleman. The invention of the rifle gave a new twist to warfare. Hunters became soldiers who fought in green and hid behind cover, as did some of the earliest Riflemen in the forests of North America. Men such as these, in both Europe and America, revolutionized the art of war. Using black-and-white and color illustrations, including a spectacular recreation of the Battle of Waterloo, this book explains how the Rifleman was trained to act independently and rely on his own skills, thus becoming the forefather of today's combat soldier. Contents: Birth of the Rifleman, Arming the Rifleman, Rifleman on Campaign, and Rifleman Legacy. Plus Bibliography and Rifleman Directory. Howard, Glenn - Design (illustrator).

How has the belief of a handful of people in Jerusalem two thousand years ago expanded into a worldwide faith? TheEerdmans' Handbook to the History of Christianity presents a comprehensive, colorful, reliable account of this exciting story. The best~selling Eerdmans' Handbook to the Bible (750,000 copies in print worldwide) has opened up the Bible in a new way for, many people. This new Handbook, similar in design and format, opens up the dramatic events which have helped make the Christian faith what it is today. The eight major sections introduce the history of Christianity, period~by~period, from its earliest days to the late twentieth century. Specially commissioned main chapters by expert historians form the framework within which many shorter sections appear: on people, movements, and subjects of particular interest. Over 450 photographs, many in full color, give the feel of each period. And useful maps, diagrams, and charts help the reader to understand and interpret the story, giving a bird's~eye view of events. The emphasis of the Handbook is on growth and vitality rather than on institutions, giving a broad understanding of each historical period, and then spotlighting key Christian movements and outstanding personalities of the era. Eerdmans' Handbook to the History of Christianity has been written by an international team of 70 contributors drawn from 10 countries. They write both as professional historians and as committed Christians eager to introduce every reader to the richness of the heritage they have themselves discovered. Tim Dawley, who served as Organizing Editor of Eerdmans' Handbook to the History of Christianity, received a Ph.D. in Church History from the University of Manchester. Formerly a consultant with the British and Foreign Bible Society, Dr. Dowley is currently Editor with Lion Publishing in the United Kingdom.
