The spine does not have a reading crease and does not lean. Covers don't show much soiling but they are a bit rubbed. "2-2-3" is written in ink in the upper right corner of the back cover. There is a chip and a 1" tear in the lower right corner of the back cover. The front cover has a small chip in the upper right corner and a 3/4" tear in the upper left corner. A mysterious and elegant woman arrives to occupy a long vacant mansion and brings with her rumors that question her moral sensibilities. Joe Redding, a local who was recently jilted, becomes enamored with her. Williams was the literary pseudonym of Watkins E. Wright who wrote many racy romantic novels during the 1950s.
