Very mild shelf wear to covers, corners, and edges of jacket. Bound in black cloth over boards with spine lettered in red and gilt. Pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is sound. ABOUT THIS BOOK: A Partnership of Disorder examines the American-Chinese foreign policy planning in World War II for decolonizing the Japanese Empire and controlling Japan after the war. The study reveals how their disagreements on many concrete issues prevented the two governments from forging an effective partnership. Among these issues were the role of the Soviet Union and the meaning of Asian nationalism. At the war's end, the victorious Allies were neither in cooperation among themselves nor in a position to cope with the upheavals in Asia.(Publisher).

Hardcover. Condition: Good. This listing is for one volume only of the two-volume set. As for whether this is volume one or volume two, because it is still sealed in the publisher's shrinkwrap and the text on the binding is in Chinese with no apparent indication (to me) of which volume it is, hopefully the photos of the covers and spine presented here will answer that question (confusingly, the spine has a circled symbol which means "below," not one nor two, as far as I know). Although this volume is still shrinkwrapped, it is hurt, with wear at bottom of spine area and at bottom of back cover near spine, with corners bumped, and the leaves at bottom a bit wavy near the spine, thus the Good overall rating. As for what this book is about, here is the publisher's description: "People are tired of the same old stuff and are looking for something novel. With this in mind, I hereby present you two albums consisting of 600 unique pictures created by nature. The pictures cover a variety of objects: billion-year-old stones, commonly seen plants, flowers, grass and water. They seem to be inanimate and non-sentimental objects, yet the pictures inspired by them suggest the meaning of life. In addition, the focus on mysterious and metaphorical patterns incited by these pictures brings unexpected joy to the viewers. The masterpieces created by the hand of heaven free us from the boundary of inherent thinking and aesthetic pattern, and incentivize us to see and to ponder in depth: What is freedom? What is art? What is nature? What is natural grace? What is free spirit? And foremost, the one and only way for us to overcome difficulty is to embrace nature, from whose grandeur we draw inspiration and creativity!" Given that the "two albums" contain 600 pictures, it seems likely that this single volume contains about 300. Also, it is not known if the $60 publisher's price on the back cover is for the two-volume set or just this volume, which is large and heavy. Oversize [B1:7:1].

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -Whether real or imaginary journeys by plane or in virtual reality, the poems of Chinese poet Yin Xiaoyuan construct a sort of parallel reality made up of electric fields, sudden apparitions, and transient epiphanies described with scientific accuracy and pegged into a meticulously calculated sequence of events. The view of nature, in physical and atmospheric values, dialogues in counterpoint with a virtual tributary of today's technological culture, where travel conditions suddenly ignite, as if by internal combustion, references to the fantastic (here the Russian, the spiders of Kafka, and the Lautreamontian memory.) which give rise to rapid and fleeting triggers like those of the short films that are so fashionable today. So, reality and 'reality' alternate and confuse, presenting scenes of a dream that the author provides, not without irony (especially in the dialogues), along with the premise (C. G. Jung), the script, and the interpretation. The result is a singular textuality, explicitly transgeneric, serial and fluvial, the result of multiple contaminations between literature and science, between visual art and storytelling, in an orderly chaoticism that seems to open the palette of the text to every action, and then fade in the endings like a visionary film modernly adorned with high definition, without any figure prevailing or remaining. It is akin to a poetic video game, with the original and fascinating features of post-subjective pyrotechnics. This term refers to the explosive and subjective nature of the poet's expression.Fabio Scotto.

Paperback. Condition: New. The status of Tibet is one of the most controversial and complex issues in the history of modern China. In To the End of Revolution, Xiaoyuan Liu draws on unprecedented access to the archives of the Chinese Communist Party to offer a groundbreaking account of Beijing's evolving Tibet policy during the critical first decade of the People's Republic.Liu details Beijing's overarching strategy toward Tibet, the last frontier for the Communist revolution to reach. He analyzes how China's new leaders drew on Qing and Nationalist legacies as they attempted to resolve a problem inherited from their predecessors. Despite acknowledging that religion, ethnicity, and geography made Tibet distinct, Beijing nevertheless forged ahead, zealously implementing socialist revolution while vigilantly guarding against real and perceived enemies. Seeking to wait out local opposition before choosing to ruthlessly crush Tibetan resistance in the late 1950s, Beijing eventually incorporated Tibet into its sociopolitical system. The international and domestic ramifications, however, are felt to this day.Liu offers new insight into the Chinese Communist Party's relations with the Dalai Lama, ethnic revolts across the vast Tibetan plateau, and the suppression of the Lhasa Rebellion in 1959. Placing Beijing's approach to Tibet in the contexts of the Communist Party's treatment of ethnic minorities and China's broader domestic and foreign policies in the early Cold War, To the End of Revolution is the most detailed account to date of Chinese thinking and acting on Tibet during the 1950s.
