First edition. Tall 8vo, rather heavy red cloth. Yiddish and English in reverse directions. English section of 80 pp. and Yiddish section of 240 pp. (including blanks) paginated in reverse directions. Section of photographs on pp. 193-220 of individuals and choral and other groups; on p. 213 the photograph is a part cancel, that is, another picture has been pasted over the one printed. Since the glue has aged, the pasted-on picture can be lifted up and the underlying one seen. Presentation inscription on the title page of the English side of the book to musicologist Richard Newman signed by A. Lechowitsky, a member of the editorial committee that produced the volume. Fine copy except for unavoidable aging of the glue used to secure the substitute picture. Note: This is about the history and cultural aspects of Yiddish music in America, there are no song lyrics or music in this volume.
