Soft cover. Condition: VG. 3pp story, printed in double columns, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, Volume LI, #4, February, 1896. Local color from the Southern author -- known as Alabama's foremost folklorist -- who published mostly under the pseudonym Eli Shepperd. From the opening paragraph, "Bastien Carrel sold hot oyster pates at his little white canvas booth on Prytania street. Perdita lived in a tiny brown cottage on Tchoupitoulas. She hoped someday -- it was the pinnacle of her ambition -- to be a clerk like Tanti Mimi in one of the shops on Bourbon." Very scarce. Housed in protective mylar report cover.
