Presumed first edition (no direct statement provided). Paged as i-xii, 11-204. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13cm. No dust jacket present. Blue cloth rubbed and stained; silver stamped lettering to front board and spine remains fairly bright. Text block's top edge darkened; toning to fore-edge and bottom edge. Some foxing/toning to interior leaves. Front and rear hinges shaken but text block remains reasonably firm. A compilation of Mississippi-authored poetry by Laurel, Mississippi resident Ernestine Clayton Deavours (1892-1966) with her Preface on pages 11-13 which, in conjunction with her leadoff comments at each poet's respective contribution, might leave one wondering whether she secured appropriate permissions to reprint all seventy-three authors which favor the obscure (Henry M. Abney, Julia K. Wetherill Baker, Chattie Beall, S. Newton Berryhill, Margaret Hunt Brisbane, Marcus T. Carpenter, Lafayette R. Hamberlin, S.A. Condition: Very good. Six letters, one type written and five hand written, between surrealist painter Wolfgang Paalen, and Lafayette Young III, a bookseller in San Diego, who created a salon that drew poets, artists and writers his shop, and was a close associate of Henry Miller. The letters dated from 1943 to 1948, much of it writing about their families and developments in their lives, but the typewritten letter from 1943 talks of his trials getting out the current issue of DYN to publication and his new collaboration with painter Gordon Onslow Ford and his wife writer Jacqueline Johnson. The one letter from Young is handwritten, possibly a first draft, of his response to receiving at new issue of DNY from Paalen. The last two letters from 1948 are of Paalen's upcoming exhibition in San Francisco and of his hopes to see his friends again. Included are four envelopes, one with Paalen's address, and one envelope from the Hotel Empire in San Francisco. The letters are in very good shape, with some wear or creasing along the edges.…
