Stiff wraps. Condition: Good+. First Edition. Oblong quarto. Eleven pages of text followed by 192 photos. With a bi-fold panorama view of Dawson City, 1903. Two maps. Tissue guards, front and back, with moire design. Stiff wraps, blindstamped, with sewn binding affixed with decorative ribbon ties. Chips to covers, notably to tai…l of spine, extending to front cover. Slight blotchy degradation to gilt titling on cover, the size of a US dime, affecting the "N" and "I" of "souvenir." Rear joint starting (see last photo). A couple leaves have closed quarter-in tears on fore-edge. Fore-edge corners are rounded. Copy was contemporaneously annotated in pencil and red ink by former owner who ventured to the Klondike at the time the photos were taken (please see below). Withal, a copy that was used, with evidence of such, but remains well bound. Now protected with a clear, removable acetate jacket. Increasingly scarce pictorial view book featuring fascinating photographs documenting several years of the gold rush, showing mines and miners, panoramas, restaurants, clubs, shots of interiors of residences, sled dogs, stage sledges, emigrants on the Chilkoot Pass, automobile excursions, etc. This copy was owned by a Yukon venturer: For example, under the caption for the Rochester Hotel, Dawson, Y.T., he has written, "I stayed at the Rochester first two days here." Under a photo of the steamship Casca, he writes that "this boat was sunk on my way up Yukon + I passed it going down the river to Dawson . ." The annotator may have been sent to the Yukon by an employer; beneath a photo of the Mouth of the Klondyke River, Y.T., he writes he was "up here Sunday last 6/26/10 at midnight to see the dredges work." In sum, about 25 photos are annotated. The Guggenheim-backed Yukon Gold Company, which entered the district in 1906, is of special interest to Zaccarelli. The publisher operated the Zaccarelli Book Store on King Street, Dawson City, depicted in a photo here as a handsome shop. ARCTIC BIB., 1975; RICKS, p. 266; SMITH, 11293 (posits pub. date as "1908?"). . Photograph reproductions (illustrator).
