Viene, poi, offerto un focus sul quel periodo di "abulia politica" iniziata con la morte di Alfonso il Magnanimo, che vide il prevalere della città di Catania sugli altri due centri maggiori, Palermo e Messina, in lotta per la conquista di una presunta primazia sull'isola. Così Ferdinando de Acuña, vicerè di Sicilia, e la sua consorte si legarono ben bresto al centro etneo e divennero grandi devoti di Agata, realizzando la propria sepoltura nella cappella della santa, nel duomo di Catania.
