Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Sigmund Freud (2015) 'Interpreting Dreams', UK illustrated edition, published by The Folio Society (from the first printing). This comes with an original handwritten and signed postcard. The book: uses J. A. Underwood's magisterial 2006 translation, which follows the last German edition, the eighth that Freud prepared in his lifetime. It includes ten beautifully enigmatic oil paintings by Gabriella Boyd, an acclaimed artist currently studying for a postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy, and an indispensable introduction from Cambridge professor and psychoanalysis expert John Forrester, written in 2006. The book's production details: Bound in blocked cloth with an inset printed-paper label; set in Sabon with Minion display; 600 pages; frontispiece and 9 colour illustrations; plain slipcase Condition of the book: fine with no flaws whatsoever. The postcard: Autographed and Signed Postcard, 5.75″ x 4.25″ Penned in German, in the hand of Sigmund Freud, and signed as "freud". Dated "Wien 2.X.34" (Vienna 2 October 1934), and mailed to E. Kempster in Lugano Switzerland. Near fine with bold writing and strong vibrant ink. In January 1933, the Nazi Party took control of Germany, and Freud's books were prominent among those they burned and destroyed. Freud remarked to Ernest Jones: "What progress we are making. In the Middle Ages they would have burned me. Now, they are content with burning my books." Freud continued to underestimate the growing Nazi threat and remained determined to stay in Vienna, even following the Anschluss of 13 March 1938, in which Nazi Germany annexed Austria, and the outbreaks of violent antisemitism that ensued. This postcard was dated from 1934, during the final years Freud remained in Vienna. In Vienna during the 19th century, the script that was taught in schools was quite different from that in the non-German speaking parts of the world, and different as well from the German script of the present-day. This style of script is known as Kurrentschrift, and it was used in the same way that (some of us) use cursive today. Sigmund Freud, for instance, wrote letters, scribbled analyst's notes and signed his name, in Kurrentschrift. Although Freud is known to have signed his name in other ways, he often signed "freud." The capital and lowercase "F" of Kurrentschrift are very similar in form, but not identical. The letter is shown translated below: "I have received your lovely letter and thank you for it. Yours, Freud" The postcard comes with the necessary paperwork. There is no doubt about the authenticity of the postcard and signature. Sigmund Freud is the father of modern psychoanalyis. 'Interpreting Dreams' or 'Traumdeutung' as it is known in its orginal German title is Freud's most popular work. Although the true first edition in German, published in late 1899, has not sold for almost a decade the book gained popularity and eight edition had been published in Freud's lifetime. First and Fine. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover, Slipcased. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Jim Burns (illustrator). New and unread - signed by Guillermo del Toro (author of the introduction) and the illustrator Jim Burns. Stephen King's It is reborn in a spectacular Folio Society limited edition - a single epic volume of horror and heart, gorgeously crafted and truly unsettling. Featuring a deeply personal introduction by Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and chilling new artwork by legendary illustrator Jim Burns, this edition captures every sinister detail of King's sprawling tale. Set in the town of Derry, Maine, the story follows a group of children - and later adults - as they confront a shape-shifting evil that feeds on fear. From sewers to storm drains, clowns to werewolves, the horrors they face are both supernatural and terrifyingly real. Burns's illustrations bring the creature's many incarnations to life, while David Curtis's design work - from blood-red balloons to tattered typography - infuses every page and surface with dread. Signed by all three collaborators and limited to just 500 copies, this is It as you've never experienced it before. This is It like you've never experienced it with every detail approved by Stephen King himself. Jim Burns conjures 17 twisted illustrations including those of Pennywise and his many guises, each one more nightmarish than the last. Legendary director Guillermo del Toro introduces the tale while designer David Curtis amplifies the unease with monstrous type, crimson endpapers and blood-streaked edges that hint at the horrors within. And if you're tempted to float . the clamshell box holds a final lure: instructions to fold your own paper boat. Set it sailing - Pennywise is waiting. Quarter bound in leather with printed cloth sides and printed edges Cover, edge, endpaper and box lining design by David Curtis Printed endpapers Presented in a clamshell box covered in cloth, with a printed lining with a design by the artist. 6 colour and 11 black & white double-page spread illustrations by Jim Burns - Colour illustrations printed on Symbol Tatami paper. Signed by Translator.

THIS A SCARCE VINTAGE HEIRLOOM EASTON WITH LAVISH DEEP GILT IMPRESSIONS TO THE BOARDS AND SPINE with A BEAUTIFUL FULL-COLOR FRONTISPIECE. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY-PRIZED & MOST BEAUTIFUL EDITIONS OF THIS MASTERPIECE YOU CAN FIND. PINEAPPLE NOT INCLUDED AS KESEY S FANS KNOW, HE SOMETIMES SIGNED HIS BOOKS WITH VERY COLORFUL, FANCIFUL SIGNATURES. IN FACT, THEY ESPECIALLY PUT AN ONION PAPER IN FRONT OF HIS SIGNATURE TO KEEP IT FROM BLEEDING ONTO ANY OTHER SECTIONS OF THE BOOK. THIS IS ONE OF THEM, AND IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ORIGINAL NOTECARD & CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. KESEY UNFORTUNATELY PASSED AWAY 2 YEARS AFTER THIS EDITION (2001) WAS PUBLISHED, MAKING IT EVEN MORE VALUABLE. ABOUT THE BOOK: In One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, Tyrannical Nurse Ratched rules her ward in an Oregon State mental hospital with a strict and unbending routine, unopposed by her patients, who remain cowed by mind-numbing medication and the threat of electric shock therapy. But her regime is disrupted by the arrival of McMurphy the swaggering, fun-loving trickster with a devilish grin who resolves to oppose her rules on behalf of his fellow inmates. His struggle is seen through the eyes of Chief Bromden, a seemingly mute half-Indian patient who understands McMurphy's heroic attempt to do battle with the powers that keep them imprisoned. Ken Kesey's extraordinary first novel is an exuberant, ribald and devastatingly honest portrayal of the boundaries between sanity and madness. CONDITION: Book is in LIKE NEW condition for its age with only a couple of rubs to the gilt page ends and one minor rub to the bottom edge of the front board (SEE PICS FOR FURTHER DETAILS). NO ATTACHED BOOKPLATES, WRITING FROM PREVIOUS OWNER, ETC. It is an AMAZING edition! SHIPPING: FREE TO U.S. ADDRESSES ONLY. INTERNATIONAL $ based on location. WE SHIP PRIORITY MAIL & PACK VERY WELL.
