0. Katalog. Porto/Köln 2009. Beitr. von Ulrich Loock & Julia Friedrich. 4to. Vol. I: 2006-2008. 72 S. mit 48 farb. ganzseit. Abb. / Vol. II: Porto-Köln. 64 S. mit 58 meist farb. Abb., Ausst'verz., Bibliographie, brosch. in Schuber - Text in dt., engl. & portug. Sprache. ***** The Volume I "Christopher Wool 2006 - 2008" is an artist's book featuring the paintings and silk screen works on paper Wool hasproduced during the past two years, approx. 45 works. The sequence of the reproductions has been decided by the artist - this way he offers important insight into the way he thinks himself about relations between those contradictory and complementary types of work. The Volume II "Christopher Wool Porto - Köln" is a catalogue relating to the exhibition in Porto and Cologne. It features generously illustarated essays by both curators of the show, Julia Friedrich and Ulrich Loock, in Englisch, German, and Portuguese. Both essays focus from different perpectives on Wool's more recent, particulary painterly work, and examine the migration of Wool's imagery through different means of representation, print and painting, writing and sweeping, drawing and overlaying, etc. this volume also includes an illustrated list of works in the exhibtion which makes the complete show accessible even to a public that is unable to see it in person. 21.4.2009 - 12.7.2009.

2-colour screenprint, 2008, on Dur-O-Tone Newsprint, signed and numbered from the edition of 45, printed by Brand X Editions, New York, 96.5 x 63.5 cm. (38 x 25 in.) "As Wool has gradually pulled away from language, he has moved ever closer to paintings that slip further and further into the void. There is a real menace that com…es with the fog and the rot and the glimpses of graffiti hanging in the air like satanic versions of the Northern Lights." (Richard Flood, Parkett No. 83, 2008) Making a name in the New York art scene in the early 1980s, Christopher Wool is best known for his word paintings, white canvases with black stencilled letters. By incorporating media and techniques including photography, silkscreen, reproduction, overpainting and erasing, Wool's work often combines human and machine marks, as in his paintings in which he smudges black lines drawn with a spray gun into gray fields.
