Reprint, stapled. Condition: Gut. pp. 253-258. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author. - Author's name underlined, otherwise good and very clean. - From the text: Propertius 3. 24, a poem well known for difficulties which stem in the main from uncertainty in the text and punctuation of lines 9-12, has lately been re-evaluated by Alva Walter Bennett. An able Latinist, Bennett has contributed to our understanding of Propertius; but with reference to 3. 24, not only his conclusions but also his methodology seem to me unsatisfactory. First German edition of "The Real War", signed and inscribed to a German admirer. Books signed by Richard Nixon are certainly not rare. In an article for the Washington Post, journalist Julie Baumgold describes Nixon's daily routine after the end of his presidency: "But what does he (Nixon) do from 7 until 6 every day? One friend describes it as "the ongoing business of being a former president." He signs his letters, autographs his books (in just one recent week he finished signing 19,000) and he "sees people," says an aide" (J. Baumgold, "Nixon in New York Richard Nixon's New Life in New York. The business of being an ex-president", The Washington Post, July 5th, 1980). Nevertheless, signed copies of Nixon's books translated into foreign languages are not common at all. The German Nixon fan went to some trouble to get a signed copy of the book. He asked a relative to write a letter to that effect. He sent the book to New York and enclosed a 50 dollar note to cover the return postage. The book came back signed without the note having been removed. This further confirmed his high opinion of Nixon. At the beginning and end of the book he tipped in two newspaper cuttings about Richard Nixon. This caused some minor creasing to the left-hand edge of the (signed) half-title. Otherwise a very good copy with the dust jacket in fine condition.
