Quand ils seront réunis, ils achèteront une petite maison à la campagne où ils vivront heureux tous les trois (c'est-à-dire Albertine, son mari Lou, leur oncle et secourable ami) et, tandis qu'eux jardineront, elle écrira le livre déjà ébauché dont elle compte tirer gloire et fortune, car elle ne veut de métier que celui d'écrivain. Un an la sépare de ces jours heureux. Pourquoi ce délai ? Parce que l'oncle achève d'amasser une honnête fortune au Gabon et que Lou est encore pour ce temps « touriste au pays froid » quand elle obtient son visa de sortie. Le pays froid - on l'a compris - c'est la prison. Il s'agit donc pour Albertine de trouver un gîte où prendre son mal d'attente en patience. Les difficultés commencent là, les gîtes qui lui sont offerts étant en zone interdite. Ce n'est pas pour embarrasser la jeune femme qu'ont si bien fait connaître L'Astragale et La Cavale (dont La Traversière est la suite logique et chronologique). Les choses s'arrangent toujours à force de volonté et elle n'en manque pas pour obtenir ce qu'elle désire en dépit des accrochages, dérapages et contretemps dont elle raconte ici les péripéties dans le style désinvolte et pittoresque qui est le sien. Edition Originale de 1966 par Jean Jacques Pauvert avec un achevé d' imprimer du 10 Novembre 1966, broché avec une couverture souple en assez bon état, format 18,5 x12x2,5 cm , 283 pages.
