Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Fine. Wrappers. Edition limited to 27 copies, 12 only for sale. First American edition of the fourth Ariel Poem, printed for copyright purposes; a splendidly austere production compared with its English counterpart. The series was initiated by Walter de la Mare's son Richard at Faber & Gwyer, the principle being to make an attractive match in a small pamphlet between writer and artist. Walter de la Mare's Alone had a complicated history: it was proofed first with illustrations by Ralph Keene, but these were swapped in Faber & Gwyer's published version with Blair Hughes-Stanton's wood-engravings originally intended for Ariel Poem no. 2, Henry Newbolt's The Linnet's Nest.
