John Donaldson Voelker (June 29, 1903 - March 18, 1991), also known by his pen name Robert Traver, was a noted lawyer, Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, author and fly fisherman from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Paul Watzel (1896-1983) was a prominent attorney from Lansing, Michigan, who practiced law for over 50 years. Voelker and Watzel were part of a tight-knit group of Michigan "fishing lawyers" who frequented the Upper Peninsula. Voelker's colleagues were part of the professional and social fabric that informed his writing. The First Edition book is Near Fine, three small spots on the fore edge of the first 10 pages of the book, in a Very Good priced dust jacket, large chip removing the bottom 2 3/4" of the spine, else scattered small edge tears. Upon publication Anatomy of a Murder became an immediate bestseller and was the basis for the classic 1959 Otto Preminger film starring James Stewart, Lee Remick and Ben Gazzara, and was nominated for 7 Academy Awards.
