Add to basketFirst edition, inscribed by the author, number 38 of 100 copies, from a total edition of 170; 4to, (26.5 x 20.5 cm); 14 etchings by Edouard Chimot, including frontispiece, original sketch by Chimot on half-title accompanying presentation inscription, unmarked internally, red endpapers, additional green title page dated 1920; publisher's half red morocco, gilt lettering to spine, top edge gilt, fore-edge uncut, overall an attractive copy; 85pp. An excellent edition of RenĂ Baudu's Les AprĂ s-Midi de Montmartre. Inscribed by the author, enhanced with an original sketch signed by Edouard Chimot, to Baudu's friend 'Zittel', dated 10th August 1924. An interesting work, started in 1913 and interrupted by the First World War. It was finally printed in 1919 on the presses of E. Arnault in Tours for the typography and by EugĂ ne Delâtre in Paris for the etchings. Baudu documents the drinking, drug-use, and prostitution that attended Montmartre's heyday as the centre of artistic life in Paris. Les AprĂ s-Midi de Montmartre describes, in fiction, the 'lost girls' that inhabited the neighbourhood, and the vagaries to which they were subject. The text is accompanied by fourteen engravings by Ădouard Chimot, depicting the young women of Montmartre. This copy is unusual in that the publisher, L'Ădition, has been replaced on the title page with 'Pour le compte des auteurs' ('on behalf of the authors').
