Quarter cream vellum over marbled paper boards. Colour frontispiece after Bouchot, plus 11 black and white plates. A fine copy (clean and un-marked with a bookseller's ticket to the front paste-down). None of the usual soiling to the vellum which is really bright and un-marked. In the original publisher's slipcase which is a bit rubbed and marked, with some tape residue (from an old repair) to the lower joint. The book itself is in fine condition. No inscriptions. At the time of listing I can find no other other example of this book on the www in the original slip-case. A superior example. "Founder and long-time president of the International Wine and Food Society, Simon authored many definitive works, including authoritative bibliographies and a multi-volume Encyclopaedia of Gastronomy. In both his life and his writings, he "taught people to enjoy wine with food, trying to encourage hotels, restaurants, chefs and others to incorporate flair and taste and imagination in presentation of foods" (New York Times).
