It was during this period that he developed his signature "écritures" bold, handwritten statements on canvas that challenged conventional art forms and conveyed incisive social commentary. Notable works include "L'art est inutile. Rentrez chez vous" ("Art is Useless. Go Home") and "Tout est art" ("Everything is Art"), encapsulating his belief in the omnipresence of art in everyday life *** Ben s involvement with the Fluxus movement in the 1960s further solidified his reputation as an avant-garde provocateur. He participated in numerous performances and happenings, emphasizing the fusion of art and life, and often incorporating elements of chance and audience interaction *** On June 5, 2024, Ben s beloved wife, Annie, passed away following a stroke. Unable to imagine life without her, Ben made the heartbreaking decision to follow her and tragically took his own life just hours after her passing in their home in Nice. Initiated by the Global Art Affairs Foundation, PSAP is recognized for its museum-quality exhibitions and collaborations with international art institutions *** Lawrence Weiner (1942 2021) was a leading figure in Conceptual Art, renowned for his text-based works that challenged traditional notions of artistic expression. His bold, typographic installations, often displayed directly on walls or public spaces, transformed language into a sculptural medium. Weiner s works emphasize ideas over physical form, using simple yet profound statements to explore themes of perception, identity, and communication *** Lawrence Weiners groundbreaking conceptual art has been exhibited in major institutions worldwide. His early retrospectives at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1988/89) and Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C. (1990) cemented his influence in the art world. The Whitney Museum of American Art (2007 2008) hosted As Far As The Eye Can See, his first major U.S. retrospective, solidifying his impact on contemporary art. His presence at the Tate Gallery, London (2006) and Museum Ludwig, Cologne (1995) highlighted his European influence, while exhibitions at the Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1991) and Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (2000) further reinforced his international reach. Add to basketOriginal. A collection of original artworks and works-in-progress by "travelling artist" and photographer James Collins (1939-2021). Four items including (1) a 30 x 21cm colour pastel artwork 'Self Portrait as Light Bulb', signed; (2) a 36 x 31cm colour painted canvas self-portrait, undated; a 58 x 40cm comb-bound landscape sketchbook dated January 1969, 78 leaves of colour sketches, recto only. A workbook for colour band artworks containing drawings and colour diagrams in advance of paintings, maquettes, etc., with extensive annotations and notes. The final three pages somewhat torn, with some loss (likely amendments by the artist). Signed on the cover; a 61 x 46cm landscape sketchbook, some sketches dated (c.1981), 5 leaves of conceptual sketches with figurative aspects - images of women sketched in biro and colour felt pen, with various statements of intent including a quote from John Osbourne. Sketchbook originally had 100 sheets, but the remainder here are revealing of the artist's practice. Both sketchbooks show signs of working use. A curious and compelling archive.
