Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Fantasy Press, PA, 1953 Limited Numbered First Edition, First PrintingÂNear fine book with a vibrant dust jacket, signed by Heinlein on the limited edition page as Number 13. Inscribed by the author on the limitation page: âTo C.A. Prohaska, Sincerel…y, R.A. Heinleinâ and hand-numbered 13 of 500 Limited signed Firsts. Robert Heinlein signed very few books, other than his few limited editions. (Compare the rarity of his signature, yet alone an inscription, to others of his contemporaries such as Bradbury, Asimov or Clarke.) The book is in lovely near fine condition with terra cotta red boards with some faint discoloration. Gilt titles to spine. The boards have No edgewear, very sharp corners, and a square and tight binding. Robert Heinlein inscribed the book to âTo C.A. Prohaska, Sincerely, R.A. Heinleinâ and hand-numbered the edition as 13 of 500 Limited signed Firsts. The interior of the book in in fine unread condition with bright, flat and clean pages with no marks, no inscriptions, no foxing, no stains and no age toning to the pages. The original ownerâs bookplate is neatly obscured behind the front flap of the jacket, however we found the artwork to be a stunning âCartier bookplateâ with spectacular art, so we have included an image of the bookplate in the listing. Internally the book appears as unread. Beautiful condition book. Please see images. The original unrestored dust jacket is in very good condition with some slight rubbing and nicking. Please see images for more details. Scarce signed and inscribed collectible book in great condition. Would make a wonderful special gift for a Heinlein collector. ADDITIONAL IMAGES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Please see our store for additional rare SciFi titles.

First edition, signed limited issue, number 11 of 500 copies signed by the author on a tipped-in leaf, as issued; this copy is additionally inscribed "To Joseph Schaller, most sincerely R. A. Heinlein". The total edition comprised 3000 copies. This title contains "Gulf", "Elsewhen", "Lost Legacy", and "Jerry Was a Man", all of w…hich broadly meditate on what it is that makes one human. The collection was almost immediately picked up for paperback publication by New American Library's Signet imprint. Heinlein won four Hugo awards in his lifetime and seven posthumously. His work was amongst the earliest to be scientifically accurate, earning him "instant and unflagging popularity" (ANB), and his place alongside Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke as one of the "Big Three" titans of science fiction. Often called "the dean of science fiction writers", Heinlein developed tropes such as the piloted mech and space marine. Currey, p. 232; M. Keith Booker & Anne-Marie Thomas, The Science Fiction Handbook, 2009. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt. With dust jacket. Contemporary bookplate of one Joseph Schaller to front pastedown and with his ownership inscription to front free endpaper. Jacket unclipped, small, faint damp stain to verso: a very good copy in near-fine jacket.
