The first edition of this work.Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Dear Lota, this may please you for an hour. The atmosphere is all from your country, you will all know how I love it'.Mrs Lota Law, Charlotte Anne Harriet Law nee Stuart, was the wife of Hugh Alexander Law, an Irish nationalist politician. Their home was Marble Hill House in Donegal, where they played hosts to George William Russell on a number of occasions; when he stayed at Marble Hill House he stayed in the children's house in the grounds, which was known as the 'Fairy House', apparently where he found his strongest psychic insights, spending his time there hunting for fairies in their woods. They also hosted W. B. Yeats, Jack Yeats, P.H. Pearse, William Orpen, G.K. Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc.In the original unclipped dust wrapper.'The Avatars' ponders the question of what would happen if a socialistic state took control, an interesting dystopian novel.Russell was an Irish author and mystic.
