In good condition, lightly aged, neatly inserted in trimmed windowpane mount. Twice folded for postage. Thirteen lines of text in his distinctive close backwards-leaning hand. Begins: 'My dear Sir / You were kind enough to send me, when down at Tenby, a copy of the little Paper of the Ind Cotton Essay of Norman - and in another letter to notice that Lord Campbell had quoted in a speech at Dunning a passage from one of the Carlton Pamphlets.' He explains why he cannot find the letters, and asks him to resend the reference to Campbell'.

Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 10th Baronet 1787 - 1871 was a British politician and baronet. Among his many business interests Acland was the owner of a schooner called Lady of St Kilda, which he bought in 1834. It was named for the remote Scottish archipelago he visited with his wife in 1812 when he made the earliest extant sketches of the old clachan. On the maiden voyage of his new yacht in 1834 he again visited the islands, leaving twenty gold sovereigns with the minister to assist in the building of new houses, which was later matched by their improving Landlord, Lt Col MacLeod of Skye. In 1842 the schooner visited the township of Melbourne in Australia, which had been founded in 1835. As a result of that visit, the suburb of St Kilda was named after the ship, and Acland St, one of St Kilda's main commercial centres, was named after Acland. Size is 198mm x 110mm. Condition is good. The ball was found in his brain. I hear no reason alleged for this, tis true he was to have married the Duchess of Manchester in a few days but I believe he had no more an aversion to a pretty girl than yr Lordship yr self has'), Sir Thomas Style, 4th Baronet 1685-1769, was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons for a short time in 1715. Lord Scarbrough committed suicide by shooting himself through the roof of the mouth on 29 January 1740, aged 53. Add to basketPaper. Condition: Good. First Edition. An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Slavery Abolitionist Sir William Dolben, 3rd Baronet. Dated 1790. A third person letter requesting three dozen hampers of sherry to his lodgings. Sir William Dolben, 3rd Baronet 1727 - 1814 was an English Tory politician and abolitionist. During his long parliamentary career as an independent MP, he was a fervent advocate of parliamentary reform and the abolition of slavery. He took up the abolitionist cause after he chanced to visit a slave ship docked in the port of London; the conditions he found on the ship so horrified him that he resolved at once to work for abolition. The slave ship he documented, the Brookes, became infamous for the depictions that were drawn and published by Thomas Clarkson to support the anti-slavery movement. With the support of other abolitionists like William Pitt, Dolben put forward a bill (Dolben's Bill) in 1788 to regulate conditions on board slave ships; it passed as the Slave Trade Act 1788 (Dolben's Act) by a large majority.
