Condition: Good. First printing. Mounted on cloth and folded in the original covers, with a front cover illustration by Ellis Martin. There is some foxing to the margins of the map; overall, the map is in good to very good condition. The covers are in very good condition. This is the first issue of the map, with fawn covers. Also covers Chippenham, Keynsham, Box, Melksham, Radstock, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon.

No Binding. Condition: Fine. No. 6 C.S. Map. Pocket size 9 x 15 cms HB in brown ochre cloth gilt "London to Bath & Bristol". Fold out map 15 x 148 cms in 18 segments each 15 x 8 cms. Gilt bright, Map Fine. Some wear to spine, o/w a very good copy. Not dated but priced at "1/6 mounted in cloth". Scale: Half Inch to the Mile. This copy sold by George Philip & Son, Map, Chart & Geographical Depot, Fleet St. London, with their label.

A fine roadmap following the historic coaching route. Beautiful fold-out map encased in red/brown cloth binding - front board with black pictorial map and title. Spine with black title. Fabulous condition with no tears to map. Minor brown age spots which do not impair the map. Spine has pulled away from the text block - no loose map elements. An antique engraved strip road map comprising: - 'End of the Road from Bath to Bristol'; - 'The Road from London to the 145th Mile-stone in the way to Berwick'; Taken from a copy of The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure, published by John Hinton at the King's Arms in Paternoster Row near Warwick Lane, London. This series of maps was published between 1765-1773. This particular map, being Plate IV in a series of 39 plates, was taken from Volume XXXIX, January - June 1766 Measures around 14 3/4" x 13 3/8" (375mm x 340mm). The map contains a number of folds and creases, a few small tears but virtually no loss, and a few little holes and a larger hole with some loss towards left-hand side. Unevenly cut on left-hand side and a little so on right-hand side with margin tight at lower end. A little marking but quite clean overall and in reasonably good condition for its age. Contemporary speckled calf, re-backed in the 20th century; pp. [4], xv, 154; vii, 190. [2, errata], 65 aquatint plates, (in sepia in volume I, black and white in volume II), 11 mostly folded engraved maps. A little wear to the bindings, some light offsetting from the aquatints and a few minor spots here and there; a very good set. Archibald Robertson was a Scottish-born artist who later emigrated to the United States where he was to become one of the pivotal figures of the art scene, setting up, together with his brother, the Columbian Academy of Painting in New York, running his own art school and managing the American Academy of the Fine Arts (AAFA) in New York. Recent period-style half-calf over marbled paper-covered boards, spines in six compartments between raised bands ruled in gilt, red morocco lettering pieces gilt, end papers reneweda very handsome presentation. The title page to vol. 2 bears the imprint: London: printed for the author; and R. Faulder. Title and half-title toned, expected offsetting of plates, otherwise a Fine, attractive set. Little is known of the author, not even his place or date of birth, "but Bath was a popular destination for members of the gentry during the Regency period, and this book was intended to serve as a guide to those making the journey, pointing out important sites and picturesque views along the route. In his preface, Robinson explains that all of the plates that illustrate the work were 'not ideal but Real Views accurately taken on the spot by the author for the purpose; and the plates were all engraved by himself'.'"
