Vol.II: pp.705-1412. 5 maps and tables, 1 coloured. Small tears to a few maps. Many illustrations in the text. Internally very good and free from foxing, paper toned. Hinges starting to split at endpapers. Bound in half leather over marbled boards, rubbed and worn. Spine of vol. II splitting from upper board (1-inch split at head) and lower board (3-inch split at foot).

Preface dated 1861. Contemporary Brown Half Leather Binding with 5 Raised Bands to spine which has fine gilt decoration and gilt title on black ground. Marbled boards with leather corners. All page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Nice old bookplate on Endpaper "Stanley Prescott." 8 1/2" Tall. Some wear to cover, boards rubbed (see photo). Hinge cracked between title page and preface. Pages, Maps and Tables in very good, clean condition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall.

Complete in two volumes. Volume one is illustrated with twelve black-and-white folding maps, a colour folding historical chart, and many in-text images. Lacking maps of South America and Scotland. Volume two is illustrated with six folding plates to the rear and many in-text images. Collated complete. A comprehensive dictionary of general knowledge and information, containing entries on the topics of Geography, History, Biography, Mythology, Bible Knowledge and Chronology. Complete in two volumes, with a 'table of chronology' to the rear of volume II. Edited by Samuel Orchart Beeton, an English publisher, best known as the husband of Mrs Beeton (Isabella Mary Mayson) and publisher of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management. He founded and published the Boy's Own Magazine considered by many as the first and most influential of boys' magazines. Dated from the National Library of Wales. Bound in half brown calf with cloth boards. Externally, smart with rubbing and light wear to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Rear hinge starting but firm to volume one. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light scattered spotting. Very Good. book.
