Friday Black tackles urgent instances of racism and cultural unrest, and explores the many ways we fight for humanity in an unforgiving world. In the first, unforgettable story of this collection, The Finkelstein Five, Adjei-Brenyah gives us an unstinting reckoning of the brutal prejudice of the US justice system. In Zimmer Land we see a far-too-easy-to-believe imagining of racism as sport. And Friday Black and How to Sell a Jacket as Told by Ice King show the horrors of consumerism and the toll it takes on us all.Fresh, exciting, vital and contemporary, Friday Black will appeal to people who love Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad, the TV show Black Mirror, the work of Kurt Vonnegut and George Saunders, and anyone looking for stories that speak to the world we live in now. Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Limired Edition 222 of 250. An interesting curiosity, published and signed by A.H.Reed who in 1949 acquired several issues of Charles Dickens's All the Year Round. In the issue for the 17th May, 1862 he found an anonymous story of New Zealand bearing the odd title From the Black Rocks, on Friday. This story of adventure running to some 10,000 words appeared to have evaded the nets of New Zealand bibliographers. Reed republished the material in a limited edition of 2,000, 1750 in boards and 250 in cloth. This copy is numbered 222 , signed by Reed and inscribed to Dame Sybil Thorndike. Signed by Author(s).

Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. SIGNED by the editor/publisher, 8vo green cloth, several black & white reproductions of period illustrations, Foreword by Professor W. P. Morrell / Introduction by A. H. Reed who has Signed the volume, Mylar-protected red pictorial dust jacket (unclipped), 62 pages. Very Good copy SIGNED by the editor in the scarce dust jacket (slightly frayed). Small collector's label at top of front pastedown. SCARCE edition of a fugitive Dickens' publication dealing with New Zealand. From the Black Rocks first appeared in May 1862 in Dickens's All the Year Round. The 1950 'new' edition on display was published by A. H. Reed, who was curious as to who wrote it. The story concerns 'Henry,' a clergyman living among Ngapuhi and his subsequent shipwreck on an island. Thinking that the tale was based on a true story, Reed enquired at the Church Missionary Societies in New Zealand and London as to who 'Henry' was . . . but had no success. A local Dunedin historian surmises that John White (1826-1891), author of The Ancient History of the Maori (1887-1890) and a great admirer of Dickens, may have written the story. --University of Otago summary abridged. First Edition of 2,000 copies, comprising 1,750 in board covers and 250 cloth-bound, numbered copies, of which this is No. 250.
