Full Title: The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and Other Rights and Ceremonies of the Church According to the Use of the Church of England: together with the Psalter of Psalms of David, Printed as they are to be Sung or Said in Churches. Unpaginated, collating [A1] 2-Cc8 Bound in contemporary full red English polished Morocco. The spine with raised bands and gilt paneling between without lettering. The sides gilt paneled with floral corners. Edges gilt. Original marbled endpapers. Size: 60mm x 100mm Condition: A little rubbed, one lower corner a little worn, a little worn at head of spine else in very good state. Text hardly at all soiled and with 1786 ownership of ?Mary Jane Whitelock? to blank at front. Further Notes: At this period the Clarendon Press produced prayer books for the London market in all shapes and sizes. The octavo and duodecimos are the most commonly found but other sizes are known. This form of miniature prayer book especially designed for a ladies? purse and printed from tiny typeface is extremely rare This printing is not recorded in ESTC, the earliest printing traced by us in this format an Oxford printing of 1792. This example is unsophisticated, the binding being probably as originally sold. Overall this is a very nice example of this kind of ladies? library item of the 18th century.

Published by Savoy and London, Printed by the Assignes of John Bill & Christopher Barker, England, 1669
A late to mid 17th century mixture of Biblical and devotional texts, beginning with the Book of Common Prayer, and administration of sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the Church, according to the use of the Church of England. Also included is a complete Barker edition of The Holy Bible Containing the Old Testament and the New, Newly Translated out of Original Tongues, and with the former translations, diligently compared and revised. Complimenting that is A Brief Concordance or Table to the Bible, which is finally followed up with The Whole Book of Psalmes, Collected into English Metre. This volume bears several early provenance inscriptions, but the earliest is dated 1673 for one Hanah Thornbery, and another dated 1723 for Martha Manaton. Interesting to note that both dated inscriptions of ownership were by devout women. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. This volume has been finely bound in contemporary full leather, with beautiful Cambridge panel gilt tooling, as well as a monogram of HT to the center of the covers. There are four silver corner fittings, and two functioning clasps, and the fore-edge also has gilt gauffering. Four works finely bound into one volume in octavo, (17.5 x 11.8 cm), A8-H8, A8-Aaa3, A4-K4, A4-F4 This volume is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the binding, and a bit of leather loss to the head of the spine. The first few leaves have a small corrosion hole to the right-side margin due to the clasps, with a couple of characters being affected. Two of the leaves in the Morning Prayer from the BoCP have been mangled but are still mostly legible. A few of the upper right corners have tiny tears, not impacting text, and many of the lower right corners have tiny dogearing. There is minor soiling and staining throughout, mainly to the right-side margins.

A late 17th century duo of works, beginning with the Book of Common Prayer, and administration of sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the Church, according to the use of the Church of England: together with the Psalter or Psalms of David, pointed as they are to be sung or said in churches. Following that is the primary work, being a KJV Holy Bible, containing the Old Testament and the New: newly translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised, by His Majesty's special command. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. The volume has been finely bound in full contemporary calf, with Cambridge panel tooling in gilt. There are also two silver corner fittings, and a large, albeit nonfunctioning, detailed silver clasp that is of early, but later implementation, featuring a small cherub. Two works in one finely bound volume in small quarto (20.5 x 12.7 cm), A2-I8, A2--Cccc4 This volume is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, heavier to the hinges, with the lower front hinge starting to split. The first handful of leaves to the Book of Common Prayer are worn and frayed, with one partially lacking some text. One of the clasp screws has dented a few of the BoCP pages to the right-side margin. There is very little foxing or staining throughout, with a few leaves more soiled.

Lastly, at the end is The Whole Book of Psalms, Collected into English Metre. There are about three pages of birth records noted for the family. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. The title page to the Book of Common Prayer is lacking. This volume has been bound in contemporary full leather, with Cambridge panel gilt tooling, and with the monogram for one SE at the center.
