Hardcover. Condition: Good condition. Dust Jacket Condition: fair to good dust jacket. 302 pages, [1] pages. Illustrations. Index. DJ somewhat worn and soiled. Damp stain on top corner of rear dust jacket and top corner of rear dust jacket flap; small portion of dust jacket stuck to rear board. Signed, dated, and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper. For wine lovers, Bordeaux is the centre of the universe. But in the past two decades, revolutionaries have stormed its traditional bastions, making their mark-and their fortunes-modernising the production and marketing of wine. Noble Rot introduces the figures who epitomise the changes sweeping Bordeaux: the feuding family behind Chateau d'Yquem; a stonemason turned winemaker whose wine, made in a garage, sells for huge sums per bottle; the Maryland-based critic Robert Parker, whose opinion routinely makes or breaks a wine; and the New World operations that have undercut Bordeaux's supremacy. It also delves into the mysteries of the legendary classification of 1855: how it became the bible of Bordeaux and how it was challenged. First edition. Stated. First printing [stated].

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). 'The Johns Hopkins University Studies In Historical And Political Science.' Impersonally inscribed by the author on the first front end paper ( 'With great affection Sal A. Westrich' ). As you can see from the photos, the covers are perfectly clean. They show very little wear, a bit of crinkling at the spine ends, and a spot of puffiness off the bottom edge of the rear cover. There is a little bit of dust staining on the page edges, but I'm not seeing any effect on the actual pages which appear to be perfectly clean. They're also in excellent condition. I'm scrolling through without seeing any soiling or creasing. No dogeared corners. No markings. No attachments of any kind. And, with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The dust jacket is in solid shape. It's very clean. There are couple of areas on the front with a little creasing, same thing off the top edge of the rear, also a little scuffing at the top edge of the spine, and there's a smallish tear off the top edge of the rear just adjacent to the middle edge. The flaps are a mustard color. They look very good, with just a tiny crease or two off the top edge of the rear. They are very clean. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. It will be fitted with a protective cover. From the dust jacket: 'The Ormée was both a rebellion and a revolution. Its goals were to free Bordeaux of monarchial control and to destroy the power of the local oligarchy, especially that of the Parlement. The seizure of power had been effected in the name of Bordeaux's lower classes and this group was to be the principal beneficiary of the movement. Conversely, it was the rich merchants, the offices of the Parlement, and the officials of the royal fisc who were the chief victims. Dr. Westriich describes in detail the radical transformation the Ormée produced in the political life of Bordeaux as it quickly replaced each of the organs of government with its own institutions. But the seizure of power was to be short-lived because the two main goals in the end proved incompatible. To defeat the Crown it was necessary for the Ormée to ally itself with the Parlement, yet to defeat the Parlement, the cooperation of the Crown was needed.' Alas. Signed by Author(s).
