Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Joseph D'Ambrosio [Sherman Oaks, California]. One of 25 numbered copies, signed by designer & book artist, Joseph D'Ambrosio. 10 in. x 13 in. x 3 in. (thick). Cast paper front cover, opening to suggest the freshly hewn marble block; [8] pp. section following the genesis of the…statue, using cast paper forms, and mounted photographic prints of the model; text giving the historical background of the sculpture, and a translation of a Michelangelo Sonnet; title-page printed in black and brown with embossed design; pp. 1-57 are the texts printed in different type faces, in brown and black; with embossed designs in the paper, color-printed images, with cut-out sections of the paper to display mounted details of colored paper or string; + signed printer's page. Bound with white leather spine, back cover and front side, with the cast paper form on the front cover, opening like a drop-back box to reveal the text pages. Housed in a sturdy, and specially constructed clamshell box, which is covered in black cloth and bears a printed paper title label on the spine. The clam-shell box is unique in that it has two devices on it which allow you to pick the box straight up without it falling open (from the weight of the book) and you can easily open it because of the natural arc the cover makes when doing so. (Designer's note). In fine condition. One of D'Ambrosio's most ambitious and innovative productions, it took six years to produce. It was exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. for the Washington Art Book Fair, in November, 1993. [Publisher's descriptive information]: [-] The work is bound in [white] cast paper and Masonic Sheep [white leather]. The high relief cast paper imagery conveys a marble quarry with a hint of the figures waiting to be released by the sculptor's chisel. Nestled within is a suggestion of the block from which Michelangelo carved his statue of David. The book measures 10 x 13 x 3 inches, and is presented in a specially fitted side-hinged box of black cloth over archival boards. Letterpress printed on a Vandercook No. 4 using hand set Della Robbia, Humanistic, Kabel Light, Duchess, and Centaur type faces. Weight: 4 1/2 lbs. Postage may be extra on this item. Signed by Illustrator(s).
