Although the chronological table given there remains the standard reference for this imperial visit, the interpretation offered for P. Stras. 245 stands in need of modification I believe. P. Stras. 245 is a letter from Aurelius Aelius Isidorus, strategus of the Heracleides meris of the Arsinoite, to the village officials responsible for providing pack animals for the emperors visit, informing them that by public proclamation the animals provided are now being returned. Ce témoignage a inspiré surtout la thèse de Rostovzev, daprès lequel Caracalla aurait soutenu les soldats et les classes inférieures rurales, doù ceux-ci provenaient, sacharnant contre les classes possédantes des villes. So lautete das Urteil Alfred von Domaszewskis, der seinerzeit als einer der besten Kenner der römischen Kaiserzeit galt; so hat sich auch, im Anschluß an v. Domaszewski, Wilhelm Reusch entschieden, der Verfasser des maßgeblichen Kommentars zur Caracalla-Vita. Obwohl einzelne Auffassungen dieser Gelehrten, besonders v. Domaszewskis Methode der Quellenforschung, auf Ablehnung gestoßen sind, so ist doch, wenn ich recht sehe, ihre Gesamtbeurteilung der Tendenz der Caracalla-Vita bisher noch nicht einer eingehenden Prüfung unterzogen worden. Unter dem Einfluß der vernichtenden Kritik, die Cassius Dio und Herodian an Caracalla geübt haben, ist man sich heute fast allgemein über die vorwiegend negative Bewertung dieses Kaisers vom Standpunkt des modernen Historikers aus einig. Nur die bizarre und rätselhafte Historia Augusta soll auch hier wieder einmal die Akzente anders gesetzt haben. - Wikipedia: Heinz Heinen (* 14. September 1941 in Sankt Vith, Belgien; 21. Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT) / From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). -… sehr guter Zustand / condizione molto buona - Verfasserwidmung an / Dedica dell'autore Hildegard Temporini-Vitzthum - Letà dei Severi da tempo è stata individuata dagli studiosi come un momento centrale e decisivo della storia romana: lepoca degli imperatori africani ha rappresentato effettivamente per i contemporanei una significativa e consapevole ripresa sia sul piano militare, come su quello istituzionale, economico e sociale. -- E in questa prospettiva che si giustifica questo studio su Caracalla e Geta, nato in origine come indice epigrafico e che, solo successivamente, emersi i primi risultati, ho allargato all'esame dei principali indirizzi di ricerca su questi due imperatori dal destino così diverso: il primo, Cara-calla, rappresentato da talune fonti come un pazzo sanguinario ed irresponsabile, emerge, anche attraverso la titolatura imperiale, come espressione di una cultura fortemente originale ed espansiva, individuata soprattutto dalla ripresa vitale del mito di Alessandro Magno (già valorizzato da Augusto) e dalla politica di universalismo e di sincretismo religioso. Il secondo, Geta, idealizzato dalle fonti letterarie, polemiche con Caracalla, come il principe buono, mite, amante della cultura, subì una condanna con la quale il fratello avrebbe voluto cancellarne anche il ricordo: anch'egli però era stato amato dalle truppe e si era dimostrato scrupolosamente attento alle nuove forme di religiosità verso le quali la romanità si andava indirizzando. -- Le iscrizioni ci portano con immediata evidenza allinterno della problematica che la propaganda di corte aveva in quegli anni dibattuto ed impostato: intanto ladozione di Caracalla (ed in parte di Geta) tra gli Antonini è il segnale di un esplicita politica dinastica a lungo termine, divenuta necessaria dopo un periodo di crisi e di anarchia. I cognomina ex virtute, le acclamazioni imperiali, alcuni epiteti laudativi (pater mili-tum, propagator imperii, invictus, fortissimus, felicissimus, fortunatissi-mus, ecc.) ci danno la misura del ruolo che i militari ed i circoli antisena-torii esercitavano ormai a corte.
