125 x 230 mm. printed and manuscript. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. A certified copy made in 1846. Sarah's father Charles is listed as coach maker.

Condition: Good. About 240 x 100 mm. Heavily folded and worn but easily legible. He was son of John and Lucy Ellsmore of Bridgeford.

Watisfield, 11 December 1750. Thomas Harmer (1714-1788), Independent minister and church historian. Harmer's reputation as a scholar and useful writer rested originally upon his Observations on Divers Passages of Scripture, Illustrated by Accounts of Travellers in the East, which was published initially in a single volume in 1764, but by 1787 had been extended to four volumes. A fourth edition, edited and revised by Dr Adam Clarke, appeared in 1808. However, Harmer is probably better remembered for his histories of the dissenting churches of East Anglia. Harmer remained minister at Wattisfield for fifty-four years, during which time he missed only one Sunday service through illness. [DNB].

No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Broadside measuring approximately 17" x 13". Theodore F. Scheffer (1813-1883) was a printed and bookseller in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He may have been an apprentice of the important color-printing experimenter, Gustav Sigismund Peters. Some old paper repairs on the back and light foxing along the margins with a few spots and crease marks. An attractive well preserved document nicely printed in color.

12-1/2" X 15-1/2." Baptism certificate in a wooden frame, engraved by C.F. Egelmann. Light foxing to the margins. Illustrated with several religious images, as well as iconic Screaming Eagle illustration, with "E Pluribus Unum." Very Good. With the legend, in German, "Go forth in all the world, teach all people, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost." From the web site of the Free Library: "Charles Frederick Egelmann (1782 -1860) was born in Neuenkirchen, Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1802, landing at Baltimore. He learned the trade of coach making, and earned his living as a coachmaker and chairmaker for some time. He then moved to Berks County, Pennsylvania where he taught for several years and was organist for rural churches . As a copper-plate engraver, he produced birth certificates, views of local landscapes, and an instructional book 'Deutsche & Englische Vorschriften für die Jugend' to teach children how to write in Fraktur, German script, and Roman script. It was produced in Reading in 1821. He died at Reading, Nov. 30, 1860, aged nearly seventy-nine years.".

Frame 19 x 16, black painted wood with glass, wood backing, fraktur 15.5 x 13, cream background, illustrated with angels, birds, flower, an eagle and a floral border in red and yellow. Fraktur is heavily toned, stained, small holes, missing a piece (about 1.25") near right margin, edge tears, brittle, still colorful, frame is worn/scraped/scratched, paint wearing off on edges, missing a piece on the right side edge, approx 2.5". Two small boxes at the top have these cheery thoughts: "Infinite joy or endless woe, attends on every breath; and yet how unconcerned we go Upon the brink of death!" and "Our wasting lives grow shorter still As days and months increase; And every beating pulse we tell, Leaves but the number less." If the fraktur was a book it would be described as a "poor man's copy." Sold as is.
