Original publisher's pictorial cloth; decorated in gilt, black and blue with an inset colour portrait with snowdrops; all edges gilt; aside from a few rubs and nicks to the extremities, in fine condition. "The Children's Friend" was published monthly from 1824 until around 1930. It was founded by the Reverend William Carus Wilson (portrayed by Charlotte Bronte as Mr. Brocklehurst in "Jane Eyre"). Until the turn of the century it was religious in tone, but gradually included more secular material. Book.
