The birth of Napoleon and Marie Louise's son in 1811 provided the great Italian typographer Giambattista Bodoni with an opportunity to create one of his final masterpieces: "Cimelio Tipografico Pittorico Offerto Agli Augustissimi Genitori del Re Di Roma." This remarkable typographical endeavor, printed as a gift in a single copy, comprises 40 compositions in verse, each printed in a different typeface. Alongside each verse, there are 40 miniatures specially commissioned and colored by the Parmesan artist Antonio Pasini. This edition, designed and executed by Stamperia Valdonega in Verona, consists of two volumes. The facsimile reproduces Bodoni's texts using flat-bed letterpress, with the frames and miniatures printed in nine-color offset. Specially made papers by Cartiere Magnani, Pescia, were utilized for this purpose.
