Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Gilt-stamped maroon leather, 12mo; 23pp; illustrated with title page photo, decorative initials and 5 text drawings. "This is the story of a hunting, fishing and prospecting trip in the summer of 1871 from a camp on the North Saint Vrain River near Long's Peak, Colorado. It is an exciting story and well told"-Thomas Streeter. This was one of the few sporting titles in the Streeter collection (#4127). There seems to be some uncertainty about the author's name. Streeter refers to Joseph A. Addison and the OCLC lists Joseph A[ddison] Thatcher as the author in the 8 copies they note. The printed initials, J.A.T., appear under the title on page one. A rather uncommon book and missed by Phillips, Wetzel, Bruns, Riling and Heller in their bibliographies. This copy is in very good condition with a small quarter inch chip to the crown of the spine and light wear to the extremities. The hinges are lightly cracked but still very tight. Also, this copy is inscribed and dated in year of publication and initialed, rather illegibly, by either "J.A.A." or "J.A.T.".

No Binding. Condition: VG. Bradbury / 1898 April 7th / (Colorado Photograph - Unaweep Canyon) [Large format outdoor photograph of camp group outing near Unaweep Canyon "Pearl City Hotel" by Dr. G.M. Bradbury of the Grand Junction Camera Club] (Curiosities and Photos - Small, 113530) Photograph on card mount. Condition is excellent. Grand Junction Camera Club at Unaweep Canyon, Colorado A spirited outdoor view photograph showing a small field camp of prominent Grand Junction residents set against the dramatic stone outcrops and pi on-juniper landscape of Unaweep Canyon, a geologically unique formation in western Colorado that cuts across the Uncompahgre Plateau in Mesa County. The tents are pitched at the base of a rugged rise, and an improvised nailed-together signboard humorously proclaims the site as the PEARL CITY HOTEL. The verso identifies the photographer as Dr. S. M. Bradbury - a Grand Junction dentist and president of the Western Colorado Academy of Science - who took the picture in the mid-morning light of April 7, 1898. A stamp of the Grand Junction Camera Club links this view to the activities of that early amateur photographic society in Colorado. Names penciled on the reverse identify many of the sitters as prominent Grand Junction residents: Moore, Bateman, Fisher, Fauss, McPheeters, Swift, Bull Strock, Smith (then superintendent of schools), Enoch, Phillips, Faulkner, and at lower left, Fr. Strock - almost certainly Francis Strock, a primary-grade teacher in the local schools. Their presence, along with the academic affiliations of the photographer, suggests this was not a mining camp but rather a spring outing or scientific excursion into the canyons east of the city, with the tongue-in-cheek hotel sign marking their temporary headquarters. A rare 19th-century Colorado photograph capturing a moment of exploration and camaraderie in the striking terrain of Unaweep Canyon by local amateur photographer. Map.
