Cracking to hinges, no damage to end papers. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Sunning to spine. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Boards have minor damp and dust stains. Book has a slight forward lean.

Boards rubbed; heavily faded around margins and on spine; corners bumped and starting to fray; loss at head and tail of spine; rear joint starting to crack near head. Pencil bookseller's annotations on front free endpaper. Foxing to a few preliminary pages including frontispiece; some offsetting from plates; otherwise clean. All plates present. Gutter starting to crack in one place but binding remaining firm.

Half navy blue cloth on the spine section, half green hard cover, with gilt titles to the spine. Condition very good plus, corners and spine ends slightly rubbed, a few spots to end-papers else contents very clean throughout. Contains upwards of 500 fine engravings on 14 plates, 400 original engravings by Tuffen West and around 100 additional illustrations by the reviser E.C. Bousfield. The engravings are finely executed and in very clean condition.

Illustrated with a full page frontispiece, some textual engravings and a further 14 superb full page, coloured chromolithographs tipped in.In nice, clean condition and still tightly bound. Second edition, revised and re-written by E C Bousfield, with additonal illustrations by the reviser, xi, 186pp, black & white illustrations in text, colour plates, tissues printed with descriptions, there appears to be no foxing but there are some black smudges to p62, spine just starting to crack in one or two places, endpapers tanned, green cloth with a teal cloth spine, gilt spine lettering, corners and spine ends a bit bumped and rubbed. Size: 7.5 x 5 Inches. Microscopy.

Oddly the illustrations of a moisture mark to the top right corner but the text pages do not. Almost as though the moisture was before the binding.
