Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Constitution of India 'has been presented in simple form in English. Even the format authorized by the government of India has been made more comfortable so that students, competing candidates, and scholars of the Constitution can easily listen to it. Important topics or related information is placed in the box in the middle of the book, from which the essence of the Constitution of India can also be considered with a cursory view. The Constitution is the soul of India. The country's governance is governed by the Constitution and the judiciary sees that the Constitution does not violate it. But with the basic part of the Constitution, it is also less important than what constitutes Constitution, constitutional personality or individuals behind the implementation of the Constitution. All these have been beautifully coordinated in this book so that the General readers can get basic information with the students about the Indian Constitution. It is expected that 'India's Constitution' Will be welcomed in this form. (jacket).

Soft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. The constitution provides a legal framework for a nation, where citizens pledge to abide by the rule of law and protect the sovereignty of the country. India has a written constitution, which was created following four years of intensive debates among different stakeholders, all their concerns addressed and inputs incorporated. This makes India's Constitution unique as the British, who ruled India till 1947, do not have a written constitution. Although most of the laws were inherited from the British times, provision of reassessment and amendments keep the doors of change open. The rights to freedom of religion and freedom of speech promise equity and introspection. India's young people need to know this Constitution how we are governed and what are our democratic rights and responsibilities as citizens, for us to be able to become Global Indians. This handy book introduces the world's largest Constitution to our readers, explaining on what basis India's democracy works and dispels some of the popular myths and misunderstandings regarding our Constitution. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. The Babri Masjid Ram Mandir Dilemma: An Acid Test for India s Constitution forcefully asserts that the Babri Masjid could have been saved by the timely intervention of Rajiv Gandhi in the initial years before political positions hardened, V.P. Singh remaining firm after promulgating an ordinance vesting the specified area in and around the Babri Masjid in the Central government and P.V. Narasimha Rao taking timely action when the Babri Masjid was under serious threat. Historical wrongs must be addressed rationally and in a way befitting the modern age and times. Because places of worship of Hindus were destroyed in the past does not mean the same barbarity should be practiced now in respect of Muslim or Christian places of worship. Neither Hindus nor Muslims are prepared to give up the baggage of the past. Intermixing religion and politics has added fuel to the fire. India cannot be at peace till an amicable solution is found to the RJB-BM dispute. The author suggests such a solution based on equal respect for the sentiments of both communities. Written by the former Union Home Secretary and Secretary, Justice, who was closely associated with the events when the Babri Masjid was demolished, the book provides rare insights through its comprehensive and detached analysis. It throws light on how all major Constitutional bodies failed in discharging their responsibilities. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, India is being perceived by some as a Hindu country. Strengthening secularism is its foremost challenge. The book is a must-read for leaders of public opinion, parliamentarians, jurists, media stalwarts, professionals, administrators, and the young generation. For, what is at stake is India's future.

The Volumes of the Project on the History of Science, Philosophy and Culture in Indian Civilization aim at discovering the main aspects of India's heritage and present them in an interrelated way. In spite of their unitary look, these volumes recognize the difference between the areas of material civilization and those of ideational culture. The project is not being executed by a single group of thinkers and writers who are methodologically uniform or ideologically identical in their commitments. The project is marked by what may be called methodological pluralism. In spite of its primarily historical character this project, both in its conceptualization and execution, has been shaped by scholars drawn from different disciplines. It is for the first time that an endeavour of such a unique and comprehensive character has been undertaken to study critically a major world civilization. The subject matter of the present volume in two parts concerns every ordinary citizen inasmuch as it is a foundational right and a duty of everyone to know and understand the polity and constitutional culture under which we are governed. This volume is divided into two parts-Part 5A on Indian Polity, Governance and the constitution and Part 5B on "Federalism, Elections, Government and Rule of Law". Both the parts start with an introduction which presents the overview theme paper. Part 5A starts with section I on the philosophy of the constitution and concept of Indian polity. Section II is on the making of the constitution. Section III deals with the principles of Governance, human rights, directive principles of fundamental duties. Section IV consists of one comprehensive chapter on impact of India's constitution on her foreign policy and constitutional building in other states. Part 5B begins with section I which deals with Federalism and Union-State Relations. It is followed by section II on Law and justice. Parts III and IV are on Government and administration and elections and electoral processes respectively. (jacket).

By 1773, the East India Company (EIC) was in deep financial trouble. The Indian councils Act 1892 was enacted by the Parliament of the United Kingdom to increase the size of the various legislative councils in British India. This act was made in response to the demand from the Indian National Congress to expand legislative councils. The 1935 act was condemned by nearly all sections and unanimously rejected by the Congress. The Congress demanded convening of Constituent assembly elected on the basis of adult franchise to frame a constitution for independent India. Constitution is a legally sanctified document, considering of the basic governing principles of the State and sets out the framework and the principal functions of the organs of the Government of a state. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. The present volume of speeches and writings of Dr. Ambedkar brings out his pivotal role as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution. It contains the various motions he moved for amendments his explanation and exposition of principles his magnanimity in appreciating his opponents point of view and his readiness to change his views in the process. Truly the volume brings out the quintessential democrat in Dr. Ambedkar who laid the foundation of the democratic edifice of the government which is the government by discussion and criticism. His colleagues in the constituent assembly bestowed on him generous praise and candid approval of his role as the principle architect of our constitution and perhaps Dr. Pattabhi Sitaramayya summed up the sentiments of the constituent assembly when he said what a steam roller intellect he brought to bear upon this magnificent task irresistible indomitable unconquerable levelling down tall palms and short poppies whatever he felt to be right he stood by regardless of consequences. Editing this volume has been an exciting educative and illuminating experience. While the task has been difficult and every care has been bestowed on including every sentence of Dr. Ambedkar there could be some shortcomings in comments clarifications and in footnotes which one hopes would be corrected by frank criticism of readers and suggestions for improvement which will be gratefully acknowledged and deeply appreciated. 1240 pp.

The book presents in depth the mosaic of Indian federal structure. The mosaic of Indian federal structure is embedded in achieving the ends of fraternity by promoting the means of dignity of the individual and unity and integrity of the Indian Nation. The mosaic of Indian federal structure is rooted in the expression 'Union of States'. The author opines that all federal Units (States) of federal India, without exception, are mutually friendly reciprocal to each other and not distant from each other. Union and its federal Units (States) are mutually reciprocal friendly and interdependence, not antagonizing, to/on each other and not independent from each other. The federal structure enjoined in the textual Constitution of India by its Founder Authors is magnum opus on the lines of constitutional patriotism. The author submits, "Thus, federalism is a form of government with the potential to cope especially well with the challenges to make Rule of Law a Rule of Life". (jacket).
