Laid in is a TLS dated April 16, 1962 from a John Roebling's Sons Advertising Manager to A. C. Statter, concerning this volume. Name and monogram of Arthur C. Statter stamped on half-title. In addition, an old full-page clipping of a magazine cartoon of a collapsed suspension bridge is laid in. A handsome publication concerning the era's effort to traverse water and canyons with anchored supporting strands of cables. Some emphasis is placed on the Williamsburg Bridge. Now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve with an acid-free backing.…

Softcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition. Quarto. Slightly oversized stiff wrappers, charcoal gray decorated in black and gilt, lettered in gilt. Some wear along edges. Photo plate 13/14 has a piece aprox 1/2" x 2 " missing from the bottom, otherwise interior clean. Many photographs taken during the construction of the Bear Mountain Hudson River Bridge. Roebling was the premier construction wire producer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; most famously, they were the engineers of the Brooklyn Bridge and were still leaders in the field when they provided the cable for the George Washington Bridge in 1931-32.…

A really nice copy.Pages are clean and bright- square edges No folding or creasing of pages. 1" tear at top of title page, minor separation of binding between 1st and 2nd flyleaves. 1/4" high bump on bottom of front wrapper, 1" in length, and the general inward folding of the overhanging edges of the wrapper. Internally beautiful. An impressive and scarce book. …
