Warmly Inscribed by the author on the front fly. Mary McCarthy was an American novelist, critic, and political activist. She left the Catholic Church at a young age, and spent time in different Communist circles, settling into the anti-Stalinist Left. In the 1960's she traveled to Vietnam, acting as an anti-war reporter.
