Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (author of Snow Crash) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Avon Books, 1999. $27.50 cover price, printing number-line on the copyright page going down to "1". Big thick book, about 9.5 x 6.5". (24 x 16.5 cm) Crypto was nominated for the Hugo and Arthur C. Clark Award and won the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel. Author of the cult classic science fiction novel "Snow Crash" which influenced the creation of virtual worlds such as Second Life. Fine- in Fine Dust Jacket. A really nice copy save just a hint of shelf wear here and there and a hint of dustiness to the back board, but almost unnoticeable. Jacket is fine! No tears, no chips and NO speckling to the lettering which is often how this book is found. NOTE: Cryptonomicon is about code-breakers during WWII and their descendants in the 1990's. It's probably Stephenson's longest stand-alone novel. His masterpiece is without question "Snow Crash" with an unconventional story-line and is now probably regarded as the best SF book of 1992. NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers. ALSO: The pictures are of the actual item for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.) IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book at a better price". I am not selling new items to compete with other retailers. Returns are only accepted because of discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues. So make sure you're 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase. NOTE on USPS Shipping: Media mail shipping $9.50 or priority flat-rate medium box $25, $60 international. I tend to ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays sometimes on Friday. I do not ship on Mondays and Saturdays.

Stephenson's subsequent work, a trio of novels dubbed The Baroque Cycle, provides part of the deep backstory to the characters and events featured in Cryptonomicon. Set in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, the novels feature ancestors of several characters in Cryptonomicon, as well as events and objects which affect the action of the later-set book.
