Square quarto, olive green cloth (hardcover), 21 pp + 84 plates (some folding). Near-Fine, in a Very Good dust jacket with edgewear. This oversized volume will require additional fees for overseas or priority shipping. From dust jacket: I am not speaking of myself, for all my life I have been the servant of an unseen creative force, like the force perceptible in Greek scupture, but unfortunately not visible in painting. When the time comes, my paintings will shine like single stars in the sky. -- Thus did Tivadar Csontvary Kosztka, the pharmacist who became a painter by a call of the "Spirit," describe himself. And, although both he and his work were ridiculed by his contemporaries, the passage of time has justified his claims. This collection of eighty-four of the artist's pictures, most of which are reproduced in color, includes an introduction by Lajos Nemeth, an art historian who has written extensively on Csontvary, and a selection from the artists own writings.
