Envoi signé : «Ŕ Monsieur Romain Gary en témoignage de sa [sic] sympathie et de son [sic] respect. 30. III. 1966 Németh Lajos». Tivadar Kosztka Csontvary est un des principaux représentants de la peinture hongroise du début du XXe sičcle. ?Németh, historien de l'art majeur de l'école hongroise, lui consacre ce volume, richement illustré, qui décrit un corpus d'oeuvres aujourd'hui conservées pour l'essentiel ŕ la Galerie nationale hongroise. En Hongrie, seuls La Promesse de l'aube, Lady L., et La vie devant soi sont traduits. Jean Seberg et Gary feront au moins un voyage ŕ Budapest, en 1966 ; Gary y assurera la sortie en hongrois de Lady L., tandis que Seberg y paraissait dans deux films : La souris qui rugissait et Ŕ bout de souffle.
