Add to basketFirst edition in English, signed by the author and by the illustrator on the title page. The work, first published in German the previous year, explores the use of mescaline by Native Americans "to extend the consciousness, open the closed doors of the self and increase the richness of the soul" (p. 39). Schäfer and Cuz experimented with synthetic mescaline shortly after the war. They published their findings in a scientific paper entitled "Experimental Research on the time-space problem", which led to correspondence with Carl Jung and Albert Einstein. The artistic interpretation of their research is introduced by the Guatemalan writer and diplomat Miguel Ángel Asturias, who states that Schäfer and Cruz have "succeeded in creating a new dimension, that which is sought by art but not always found" (p. 5). Folio. Original illustrated boards. Short split to head of front joint, holding fast, nick at foot of rear board joint, spots of wear to extremities, boards a little rubbed with faint scratches to front: a very good copy.
