Plate guards in between reproductions of gospel scenes and lettering/borders, most with gold highlights, donated 1,000 years ago by the Abbess Hitda to the German monastery of St. Walburga. Morning gray linen boards with publisher symbol blind stamped in center of front cover. Quarter spine burgundy leather with gilt lettering. Fingerprint smudges in lower left hand corner of front cover, top right corner slightly bumped, very light shelf wear. Deckle edge pages. Slip case gray linen with some smudging along the outer edges, bumped lower left-hand corner, back right-hand corner.

Hardcover: red leather spine over gray cloth. Edges of the spine are rubbed, small chips at the ends of the spine. The gray cloth covering the boards is clean. Inside fine. In a sturdy slipcase covered in matching gray cloth, lightly soiled, browned at the edges. A large 7 page folder(in English) announcing the forthcoming publication of this work is laid in.

Der Hitda-Codex ist um das Jahr 1000 in Köln entstanden und gilt als eine der prachtvollsten Handschriften der ottonischen Epoche. 5000 gr.
