Mit diesem Satz weist einer der bedeutendsten französischen Romantikern, Charles Nodier, bereits 1832 auf die Wichtigkeit des Traumes hin und begründet die Behandlung des Motivs in seinen zur Schwarzen Romantik gehörenden Werken. Die folgende Arbeit behandelt ebenfalls dieses eben genannte zentrale Motiv und geht hierfür zunächst auf den Psychologen Sigmund Freud, geboren 1856, und die von ihm ins Leben gerufene und bis heute stark beeinflusste Psychoanalyse ein. Mit Bezug auf seinen Aufsatz Das Unheimliche (1919) wird die Verbindung zur Romantik und der Literatur geschaffen. Anschließend wird die Bedeutung des Traumes in der ab Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis ins 20. Jahrhundert andauernde Epoche untersucht und eventuelle Schlussfolgerungen und Erkenntnisse hinsichtlich der romantischen Epoche gezogen. Der Hauptteil der vorliegenden Arbeit geht auf die Novelle Smarra ou les démons de la nuit (1821) vom bereits zitierten romancier Charles Nodier ein. In der durch die in fünf Teile gegliederte noch stark an die Klassik erinnernde Novelle, steht ebenfalls das Träumen im Vordergrund, weshalb dieser Text für eine Analyse als Beispiel herangezogen wird. Der Fokus der Untersuchung liegt vor allem auf der Art der Umsetzung des Traum-Motivs und den Mitteln, mit denen es Nodier gelingt, den Leser zu suggerieren, sich direkt im Traum zu befinden. Durch Betrachtung der unterschiedlichen Traumebenen, der Figuren und des Bewussten bzw. Unbewussten, sollen Kenntnisse zu den nach Freud definierten verdrängten Trieben, Ängsten und Wünsche gezogen werden. Welche Schlussfolgerungen lassen sich durch das im Traum Geschehenen auf die Realität und den Protagonisten Lorenzo ziehen.

The original banner showed a large number of the demons. These pieces each show one detail from this spectacular night. Original water colour and… gouache on silk covered washi (Japanese card) with an applied gilt border and the silk speckled kozo washi (mulberry paper) surround. In the first painting, two oni (?) (Japanese supernatural demons) are in the parade, with a long banner or streamer on a pole. In the second image, four female yokai or demons are engaged in a cosmetic / grooming ritual. They are busy applying makeup, holding a mirror, and attending to one another. The red lipstick in particular implies that these are demons. Both images are humorous in style, much as Halloween takes the fear out of All Hallow's Eve. *The hyakki yagyo (????) is the parade in which one hundred demons, or yokai, march through the streets at certain times of the year. As the parade passed, those foolish enough to peer out of their windows risked being killed or abducted. Each painting has a silk painted panel of 16cm x 17cm on a backing of 22cm x 27cm. ** The original 6 metre long panel is currently hanging in the "Art Gallery of New South Wales." Another detail from the panel, in an almost identical style and border, is held at the Pompidou Centre, Paris. Holding ref. AM 2023-361.

Die folgende Arbeit behandelt ebenfalls dieses eben genannte zentrale Motiv und geht hierfür zunächst auf den Psychologen Sigmund Freud, geboren 1856, und die von ihm ins Leben gerufene und bis heute stark beeinflusste Psychoanalyse ein. Mit Bezug auf seinen Aufsatz Das Unheimliche (1919) wird die Verbindung zur Romantik und der Literatur geschaffen. Anschließend wird die Bedeutung des Traumes in der ab Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bis ins 20. Jahrhundert andauernde Epoche untersucht und eventuelle Schlussfolgerungen und Erkenntnisse hinsichtlich der romantischen Epoche gezogen.Der Hauptteil der vorliegenden Arbeit geht auf die Novelle Smarra ou les démons de la nuit (1821) vom bereits zitierten romancier Charles Nodier ein. In der durch die in fünf Teile gegliederte noch stark an die Klassik erinnernde Novelle, steht ebenfalls das Träumen im Vordergrund, weshalb dieser Text für eine Analyse als Beispiel herangezogen wird. Der Fokus der Untersuchung liegt vor allem auf der Art der Umsetzung des Traum-Motivs und den Mitteln, mit denen es Nodier gelingt, den Leser zu suggerieren, sich direkt im Traum zu befinden. Durch Betrachtung der unterschiedlichen Traumebenen, der Figuren und des Bewussten bzw. Unbewussten, sollen Kenntnisse zu den nach Freud definierten verdrängten Trieben, Ängsten und Wünsche gezogen werden.
